Thanksgiving isn't just about eating turkey. It's about giving thanks to everything you have, and appreciating it.
Being away from home, and my family I've come to value the time I get with them.
I'm from Boston, England — over 3,000 miles away. We do not celebrate Thanksgiving in England, but I have been here for three years now, so I know how it works. From crazy cooks to that chair that nobody wants. I think it's incredible the way Americans come together and treasure the small things in life.
Giving back can be something small from smiling at someone in the store, to something big like helping out at a community shelter dishing out food.
This Thanksgiving let's go into it with a mind set of giving back, and holding the door open for that old lady you run into.
Be nice to your family as some people aren't as lucky as you are. They may not be able to get to them; distance is a big issue for many people.
I have been blessed with having a beautiful second family here in America, who treat me like their own — jokes and all.
During Thanksgiving break, I will be in Springfield, MO being grateful for the care I am receiving. They are opening up their hearts and homes for me.
So during Thanksgiving break, if you see someone in need of help, open up your heart and give back.
Remember not everybody is as lucky as you. If you are really thankful, what do you do? You Share.
