The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) reported 345 persons hospitalized and eight persons have died in Oklahoma during the current flu season.

In a Jan. 8 report, public health officials continued to emphasize the single best way to protect against flu is to get the flu vaccine.

The OSDH reports flu symptoms include some or all of the following:

Fever (although not everyone with flu will have a fever)

  • Cough
  • Sore Throat
  • Runny or Stuffy Nose
  • Body Aches
  • Headache
  • Chills
  • Fatique

Most people with the flu have mild illness and do not need medical care or antiviral drugs, according to the OSDH.

Those sick with flu symptoms, in most cases, should stay home and avoid contact with other people except to get medical care, according to the state web site.
