Bacone’s Class of 2012 included 180 graduates and three honorary degrees May 5 at the Muskogee Civic Center.

Governor of the Chickasaw Nation Bill Anoatubby and Linda Gist Calvin received Doctorates of Humane Letters, while Bacone granted Gene Wallace Master of Humane Letters.

Anoatubby, who also gave the commencement address, and wife Janice, have two sons, Brian and Chris.

Born and raised in Visalia, Calif., Calvin is married to Jerry Calvin. They have two sons, Brent and Brian, and six grandchildren.

 

Linda Gist Calvin is president and managing partner of family-owned businesses. She is a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (honorary president general), Dames of the Court of Honor, First Families of Tennessee, and the National Gavel Society.

Wallace has lived in Fort Gibson for 39 years. He and wife Annette have four daughters and five grandchildren. He is an avid reader, loves to travel, enjoys political debates, and has always been very active statewide and nationally in the Democratic Party.

Wallace’s experience includes Gulf Oil Corporation, real estate management, 1969-1975; Law Enforcement Assistance Administration,1975-1979; state chief of staff for U.S. Congressman Mike Synar, 1979-1994; and county commissioner, and Muskogee County District 1, since 1998.
