'JIM THORPE ALL-AMERICAN' CELEBRATES WORLD'S GREATEST ATHLETE |

In 1912, King Gustav V of Sweden presented Jim Thorpe with his Olympic Gold medals and uttered these words: “Sir you are the greatest athlete in the world.”
Being humble, Thorpe simply replied, “Thanks King.”
“Jim Thorpe All American” tells about the life of the late Jim Thorpe. The movie features Burt Lancaster as Thorpe.
Charles Bickford plays Glen “Pop” Warner, head football and track coach at Carlisle Indian School in Pennsylvania.
“Jim Thorpe” was released in 1952. Most of the film was shot on Bacone’s campus and the Indian Bowl.
The movie provides facts about Thorpe’s life from the time he grew up on a reservation in Oklahoma to his time at Carlisle.
The film also shows how Thorpe started in athletics.
Not wanting to run track at first, he meets “Pop” Warner who persuades him to join the team.
Thorpe sets on a journey that ultimately proves that he is the best athlete in the world.
The movie also gives details that his Olympic medals were stripped for playing pro baseball.
“Jim Thorpe All American” provides a basic idea of his life, and includes the story behind it.
